To me, the beach isn’t just a location but it’s a living, breathing character. It’s a character whose influences have affected my life in more ways than one. My parents came from the coastal town of Mangalore, India while I was born and raised on the island country of Bahrain. Some of my best but more importantly worst memories are centred around the seashore. This project was an attempt at reclaiming the beauty of the beach for myself and overcoming my animosity towards this character.

“saltwater.” is comprised of 23 photos shot in the seaside town of Cleethorpes on the east coast of England.

• The gallery was first exhibited at the SpacePlace gallery in Nizhny Tagil, Russia in September 2023.

• A photo from this set was also hand-selected for the Blacc+Blond community exhibition in Birmingham, UK in February 2024.
